In 1969, Hanoi Architectural University was established at the agreement of Ministry of Architecture (now known as Ministry of Construction) and Ministry of Higher Education and Professional Training (now known as Ministry of Education and Training). At that time, training of large-scale personnel for construction industry was necessary in line with the development trend of the country.
The forerunner of the University was an Architectural Class of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, which was established in 1961. After that in 1967, the Government decided to merge the Architectural Class into the National University of Civil Engineering to form the Faculty of Urban Architecture. Hanoi Architectural University was officially established on September 17, 1969 on the basis of the Faculty of Urban Architecture belonging to National University of Civil Engineering.
This has been one of three leading universities in the field of design, architecture, construction and planning education in Northern Vietnam. At the same time, the university is a centre for research, technology transfer, consultancy of Ministry of Construction as well as Vietnamese Government and the society in engineer- ing, construction, architecture and urban planning.
