Hàng Đẫy Stadium in Hanoi

Hàng Đẫy Stadium was formerly a 3-hectare-ground of “Tonkin Physical Education Society” (Société d’Education Physique du Tonkin, abbreviated as SEPTO). The purpose of the stadium in 1934 was to encourage Hanoi youths to exercise in accordance with the call “not to let the French colonialists despise Vietnamese!”.

Although it was the largest stadium at the time, SEPTO only accommodated 400 seats, with rugged terrain and absolutely could not use when it rained. After the August Revolution, SEPTO was still the main venue for all football games, but it was not until 1954 when the capital was liberated, a new Hàng Đẫy Stadium was born thanks to the policy of the Government to build a Stadium that be “beautiful, good, wide, meet modern standards”.

It was expanded and enlarged the capacity to more than three thousand seats. In the fourth quarter of 2018, Hàng Đẫy Stadium shall be expected to be completely restructured after the completion of the
60-year history mission. According to approved design, the new Stadium shall no longer conclude pitch to increase capacity of the grandstand; the Stadium shall be composed of four basements, two floors and grandstand forming a cultural, sports and service complex instead of just being used for sports as of present.
